This is Ged Mullane, a 75-year-old pensioner from Waterhead, who has been named the "Strongest Pensioner in Britain". He got the title after winning the British Bench Press Championships in the over-60 category by beating competitors up to 15 years younger than himself. Ged will now represent Britain in the European Bench Press Championships in the Czech Republic on 23 October.
Ged is a father of four children and have nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Before he took up weight lifting, the powerful pensioner was a member of the athletics team based at Salford Harriers. In 1983, he was in second position at the World Masters Power Lifting Championship in Canada. Now Ged hopes to win the European Bench Press Championships by lifting at least 105 kilos, which is around 16-and-a-half stone!
