Two Little Girls of Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony

Enjoyed the opening ceremony of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games? Then you must have noticed the cute, little girl singing "Ode to the Motherland" in the center stage of 'Bird's Nest'. But, do you know that the song was actually sung by a different girl? A member of China's Politburo demanded the last-minute change during a live rehearsal shortly before the ceremony.

The real singer of the patriotic song "Ode to the Motherland" was Yang Peiyi, a 7 year old girl. She was declared "not suitable" for the Olympic Opening Ceremony because of her chubby face and crooked baby teeth. So, officials picked Lin Miaoke, a 9-year-old girl, who perfectly mouthed the song with a beautiful smile.

This swith was done to give a perfect look the the opening ceremony. Peiyi, the original singer, later told China Central Television that just having her voice used in the ceremony was an honor. But, do you think that justice was done to both the girl?
