The Morning Glory Pool (6 Pics + 1 Video)

Morning Glory Pool

Today, let's take a look at the "Morning Glory Pool", a hot spring in the Upper Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park in the United States. The odd hot spring was named by Mrs. E. N. McGowan, wife of Assistant Park Superintendent, Charles McGowan in 1883. She called it Convolutus, the latin name for the morning glory flower of which the springs resemble. The distinct color of the Morning Glory Pool is due to bacteria which inhabit the water. On a few rare occasions the Morning Glory Pool has erupted as a geyser, usually following an earthquake or other nearby seismic activity.

Some more pictures below. Plus one nice video in the end.

Oculus: The Luxury Yacht (8 Photos)

Oculus8

Take a look at the yacht in the picture above. This is Oculus, a 250-feet vessel designed by E. Kevin Schöpfer, founder and owner of Schöpfer Yachts LLC. Designed to accommodate 12 guests in extraordinary comfort and style, Oculus is a long distance cruising yacht capable of speeds upwards of 25 knots. Let's take a look at some more pictures of the magnificent Oculus.

Oculus1

Oculus3

Oculus was the first “design launch” of Schöpfer Yachts LLC. It's exterior styling is representative of the jaw and eye socket bone structure of large oceanic fish and mammals. Featuring a dramatic reverse bow configuration, the yacht’s armature balances an elegant expression of symmetry and structure.

Oculus2

In addition to the bow, Oculus also features a “low rider profile”. This slightly lowered surface allows for new side recreational areas, alternate dockage access and light cruising openness. Lateral retractable side panels close this area when heavier wave action is indicated.

Oculus4

The interior features of Oculus focus on a 12 foot high ceiling in the main salon, a cylindrical double height dining room, central stair and elevator tube, and seemingly anatomical ceiling and floor lighting extensions giving definition to the seating areas.

Oculus6

The second level of Oculus is the dedicated Owner’s suite. Living areas and bedchambers are divided by a series of four freestanding tubes, which house bath and storage necessities. In addition to the main common stair, the second Owner’s stair connects to the third level aft private salon and deck / water feature.

Oculus7

The third level also contains the forward pilothouse and separate captain’s quarters. The generous open decks with separate water features are located forward and aft for convenient guest use.

Wax Barack Obama in Paris (Pics + Video)

Last week, a wax statue of U.S. President Barack Obama was presented to the media in front the Eiffel Tower before its installation at the Grevin Museum in Paris June 29, 2009. But, hot sun threatened to melt the wax Obama's face. So, helpers had to grab umbrellas to shield the waxwork from the hot sun. Take a look at the picture.

wax_obama_umbrella

The wax statue of Obama was created by sculptor Eric Saint Chaffray, who has been creating wax statues for the museum for the past 20 years, and has worked on American presidents in the past. But this time, his main problem was creating a wax statue without meeting the person. To create the wax Obama, he completely depended on press photos. The end result was definitely perfect.

Fish with Human Teeth!

fish_with_human_teeth4

Look at the fish in the picture above. Human teeth in a fish! Strange, isn't it? This is 'Sheepshead', a marine fish. The sheepshead's teeth include well-defined incisors, molars, and grinders. Their strong human-like teeth are necessary for crushing and grinding the shelled animals that they prey on.
