Microsoft will pay $180 million

The Polk County District Court Judge Scott Rosenberg approved a great deal between Microsoft and consumers from Iowa. According to this deal, Microsoft will pay about $180 million to Iowans. This will end the seven year long legal battle between Software giant Microsoft and Iowans. Des Moines lawyer Roxanne Conlin and others had accused Microsoft of anti-trust activities, which they claimed boosted the price of the company’s computer software.

The settlement calls for Microsoft to reimburse consumers who purchased certain Microsoft products between May 18, 1994 and June 30, 2006.

The reimbursement rates are as follows:

•$16 for each copy of Microsoft Windows or MS-DOS operating systems.

•$29 for each copy of Microsoft Office.

•$25 for each copy of Microsoft Excel.

•$10 for each copy of Microsoft Word, Works and Home Essential software.

Iowans can file for claims under this settlement by going to the website www.IowaMicrosoftCase.com. Link
